Resize before compressing
A 4000-pixel photograph displayed in an 800-pixel content column makes the browser download far more data than it can show. Use Image Resizer to create dimensions appropriate for the largest intended display. Keep a higher-resolution original outside the website so future layouts are not limited by the optimized copy.
Match the format to the image
JPG is usually effective for photographs. PNG is valuable for transparency, screenshots, and graphics with sharp flat-color edges, but photographic PNG files can be large. Compare size and visible quality
