What this counter measures
See words, all characters, characters without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, and an estimated reading time in one clear view.
How words are counted
The counter uses the browser's language-aware word segmentation when available. Its fallback recognizes letters, numbers, apostrophes, and hyphenated terms. Results can differ slightly from other editors because applications use different rules for symbols and compound words.
Characters with and without spaces
Characters includes letters, numbers, punctuation, spaces, and line breaks. Without spaces removes whitespace before counting, which is useful for forms and publishing systems that define limits differently.
Reading-time estimate
Reading time uses 225 words per minute and rounds up to a whole minute. It is a planning estimate; technical material and unfamiliar vocabulary generally take longer to read.
