How to add text to a video

  1. Choose a video file.
  2. Type your text and choose its position, color, and size.
  3. Select Add text.
  4. Preview and download the result.

How this works

Your browser plays the video while drawing your text onto every frame of a canvas, then records that canvas — combined with the original audio — into a new WebM file using your browser's own recording engine. No video is uploaded, and no server-side conversion is involved.

A note on scope

The same text stays on screen for the whole video — there's no support yet for text that appears only during part of the clip, or animated text. Because recording happens in real time, this takes roughly as long as the video's own length.

Common use cases

  • Add a title or caption to a video clip
  • Label a video with a name, date, or watermark text
  • Add simple on-screen text without video editing software
